1. About CRI Solv

CRI Solv is a tool for browsing audio files in a list format.
CRI Solv is specialized for viewing many audio files at once and previewing playback.

2. Start

2-1. License Authentication

These tools contain a license authentication system.
The tools can be used only when the license conditions are met.
"CRI Authorization Tool" is required for license acquisition.
For details about how to obtain/authorize your license, please refer to CRI Authorization Tool Manual.

2-2. Start

For Windows, start CriSolv.exe.
For Mac, start CriSolv.app.

3. Views

The overview of CRI Solv is shown as below:

Overview

CRI Solv consists of 5 panes.

3-1. Folder Path Pane

Folder Path pane shows a folder path where currently browsing.
You can select a folder directly here.
You can register the folder to Bookmarks.

FolderDisplay

To select a folder path directly, input the path and press the Enter key.
The right folder button shows a dialog to select the path.

The left update button triggers updating information of audio files in the browsing folder.
In other words, audio files which already have their information analyzed will not update until reanalysis is performed after using the update button.

The star button makes adding the folder currently browsing to Bookmarks.
Folders in Bookmarks are listed in "Bookmark" menu.

3-2. Player Pane

Player pane shows a volume control slider, a Playback button and a Stop button.
In this pane you can start, stop and control the volume for previewing audio files.
You can select whether to play when selected file, and whether to enable playlist playback.

Player

The ">>" button changes whether to play selected file.
If checked, an audio file starts playback automatically when selected.

The "right-triangle and down-arrow" button changes whether to enable playlist previewing.
If checked, the next audio file will start playback automatically when the currently previewing audio file ends playback.

3-3. Search Pane

In the Search pane, the text currently used as the condition is displayed.
You can set text for search conditions, and apply more advanced search conditions in this pane.

Search

By entering a text in the Search pane and pressing the Enter key or clicking the left side of the search button, the displayed waveform is filtered.
Filtering by text executes as partial match for audio file names.
If text is not set, filtering will not be executed.

You can focus on the text input in the Search pane by pressing Ctrl + F (Command + F on Mac) from another pane such as the Folder Tree pane or the Waveform Information pane.

For advanced search, press the right side of the Search button to display the context menu.

3-4. Folder Tree Pane

Folder Tree pane shows the folder structure.
Select a folder for browsing in this tree.

Tree

The icons for the Folder Tree pane are only 2 types, "Drive" and "Folder".
The icons may be not same to what are shown in the Explorer (or Finder).
(e.g. "My Pictures" folder for Windows, "Application" folder for Mac and so on)

Right-click a folder on the tree to show a context menu "Show in Explorer (Finder)".
Select the menu to show the folder in Explorer (Finder).

3-5. Waveform Information Pane

Waveform Information pane shows audio files in a folder currently referring in a list format.
You can also select a folder by dragging a folder and dropping into the Waveform Information Pane.

Select an audio file and press Enter key or double-click to start playback.
If the function to play the selected file is enabled, just click to start playback.

Click in a plot column to seek position of previewing.
Seek previewing is enabled when one of conditions below is matched.

All columns are shown as below:

Column Name Description
File Show a file name.
Full Path Show full path of the audio file.
Size Show file size of the audio file in byte unit.
Modify Time Show modification datetime of the audio file.
Format Show format of the audio file.
Sampling Rate Show sampling rate of the audio file.
Channels Show count of channels of the audio file.
Samples Show count of samples of the audio file.
BIT (WAV, AIFF)Show bit depth of the audio file.
(MP3, Ogg Vorbis)The bit rate is displayed in kbps.
Duration Show length of the audio file in [MM:ss.mmm] unit.
Plots Show an overview of the audio file.
Loudness If only "Analyze Loudness value" in View menu,
Show a loudness of the audio file.
Loops Show loop count of the audio file.
Show 0 if the audio file has no loop.
Show 1 if the file has a standard loop.
If the file has multiple loops, show the count of loops.
Sort Specification If the sorting order is specified by using CSV file, show it's number for sorting.
Sort Comments If the sorting order is specified by using CSV file, show it's comments.

Right-click an audio information to show a context menu.

Context menus are shown as below:

Copy to Clipboard Ctrl + C (Command + C) The selected files (multi-select is available) Copy the selecting audio files to Clipboard.
Update information Ctrl + R (Command + R) The selected files (multi-select is available) Reanalyze and update information of the selecting audio files.

You can also copy audio files by drag and drop.
Drag the audio files in Waveform Information pane and drop to Explorer (Finder) to copy the audio files.

4. Menus

Menu bar has 6 menus: Folder, View, Tools, Preview, Bookmark and Help.
Items below have shortcut keys.

Folder Menu

Item Name Shortcut Key Description
Select a folder... Ctrl + O (Command + O) Select a folder for referring by using a dialog.
Recently viewed folders (none) Select a folder from what recently viewed.
Show in Explorer Ctrl + Shift + O (Command + Shift + O) Show the folder currently referring in Explorer (Finder).
Exit Ctrl + Q (Command + Q) Exit CRI Solv.

View Menu

Item Name Shortcut Key Description
Display files in subfolders as well (none) Select whether to analyze audio files in subfolders of the referring folder recursively or not.
Row Height -> Enlarge Control + + (Command + +) Enlarge the row height of Waveform Information pane.
Row Height -> Shrink Control + - (Command + -) Shrink the row height of Waveform Information pane.
Row Height -> Reset to Default Settings Control + 0 (Command + 0) Reset the row height of Waveform Information pane to default.
Analyze Loudness values (none) Select whether to analyze Loudness values or not.
Omitting to analyze Loudness values makes displaying faster.
Display Loudness values of a mono audio and raise it by 3dB (none) Select whether to show the Loudness values of a mono audio as the original volume raised by the square root of 2.
This raises the Loudness value for mono audio by about 3.01dB.
This setting has no effects on audio files which have 2 or more channels.
Display multi-channels plots (none) Select whether to show plots of all channels or not.
If not use multi-channels plotting but use mono-mixed plotting, the displaying speed is improved.
When check multi-channels plotting, the plots of already analyzed files are not updated until re-analyzing.
Show hidden files and folders (none) Select whether to show hidden files and folders in Folder Tree pane and Waveform Information pane.
Column (none) Select columns for displaying.
Open Sort Settings (none) Show Sort Settings form for specifying a sort order by using CSV file.

Tools Menu

Preview Menu

Seek forward T While previewing, seek the previewing position forward by certain time specified in Tools Settings.
Seek backward R While previewing, seek the previewing position backward by a certain time specified in Tools Settings.
Play selected tracks Ctrl + S (Command + S) Select whether to start playback by selecting an audio file in Waveform Information pane.
Enable Playlist Playback Ctrl + P (Command + P) Select whether to use playlist previewing.
If checked, the next audio file will start playback automatically when the currently previewing audio file ends playback.

Bookmark Menu

4-1. Tools Settings

Select "Settings..." from Tools menu to show the Tools Settings.

ToolSettings

4-1-1. External tools

Select an external tool to used for "Open with an external tool" when accessing menu of an audio file via right click.
Select .exe for Windows or .app for Mac.
The argument "%FILEPATH%" is replaced by a selected file path.
Arguments are used when executing a command as below:

4-1-2. Seek Settings

Set the seek time in milliseconds for "Seek Forward (T key)" and "Seek Backward (R key)" when previewing an audio file.

4-2. Sort settings by using CSV file

Select "Open sort settings" from View menu to show the Sort Settings form.

SortSettings

Check "Use CSV file for sorting" to activate the sort settings by using a CSV file.
The usage is shown as below:

  1. Check "Use CSV file for sorting".
  2. Select the path of the CSV file.
  3. Select a root folder if audio file paths are written in relative path.
  4. Select a column for full (or relative) path of audio files.
  5. Select a column for comment. (If comment is not written, select a column for file path.)
  6. If a header exists in first line, check "Ignore first line".
  7. Press "Start Analyzing" button.
  8. If you want to move the browsing folder to the root folder for relative path written in the CSV file, check "Move to the root folder of the relative path when the sorting is applied".
  9. Confirm the CSV contents and press "Apply" button.

To unset the sorting, uncheck "Use CSV file for sorting" and press "Apply".

4-2-1. If an audio file is not written in the CSV file

The file hides when the "Apply" button is pressed.

4-2-2. If an audio file written in the CSV file doesn't found

The corresponding file path is marked by red color in the list of the sort settings form.

4-3. Bookmark Manager

Select "Manage Bookmarks..." from Bookmark menu to show the Bookmark Manager dialog.

Bookmark

Left side shows the current bookmarked folders in a list format.
From right buttons you can add, remove or change the order of Bookmarks.

4-4. Nuendo Connection

CRI Solv can work with Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH's "Nuendo".
Hereinafter, this function referred to as “Nuendo Connection”.
Nuendo Connection allows you to open the Nuendo project file that is used to export the selected Waveform file(s).

4-4-1. Connection procedure

(1) Connection Settings in Nuendo
  Start Nuendo to perform “Enable Game Audio Connect” and “Enable network connection”.
  For details about the settings in Nuendo, refer to the Nuendo manual of Game Audio Connect Window and Game Audio Connect Settings Dialog.

(2) Connection Settings in CRI Solv
  Choose from the Tools menu → Nuendo Connection menu “Open Nuendo Connection Settings...” to show the “Nuendo Connection Settings” dialog.
  Bookmark
  Specify the address and port number to use according to the settings in Nuendo.

(3) Connection
  Choose from the Tools menu → Nuendo Connection menu “[Not connected] Start connection” to start the connection.
  If the connection is successful, the display will switch to “[Connected]”.
  Otherwise, “[Waiting for connection] Stop connection” will be shown.
  Possible causes for unable to connect are as follows:
  - Game Audio Connect feature is OFF on the Nuendo side.
  - Incorrect Connection Settings.

4-4-2. Open the export source project in Nuendo

While connected, a menu called “Open with Nuendo” will be added to the Waveform file's right-click menu.
You can use “Open with Nuendo” to open the Nuendo project file that is used to export the selected Waveform file(s).
Bookmark
Note that nothing will happen if you use the menu in the following cases:
 - There is no waveform file with iXML chuck inserted by Nuendo.
  Before exporting with Nuendo, you have to insert an iXML chunk to the audio file.
  In the Nuendo menu [File] -> [Export] -> “Export Audio Mixdown” dialog, enable the “Insert iXML chunk” option.
 - No Nuendo projects found in the path recorded in the iXML chunk.
  Do not move the Nuendo project after exporting the Waveform file(s).

5. Notes

5-1. Supported audio file formats

The waveform file formats supported by CRI Solv are as follows:

Available property ranges are shown as below:

Bit depth (WAV, AIFF) 8bit, 16bit, 24bit, 32bit

5-2. CSV file for sorting

If a CSV file for sorting has a record which has "," or a new-line character with double quotation, CRI Solv cannot read the CSV file correctly.
