CRI ADX(Unreal Engine) v1
Beginner's Lesson 08 Playing 3D Sound (2)
How to play 3D sound?
There are two main ways to do this. This time, we will explain how to achieve this using the second method.
- Set CRI Atom Craft to "3D Sound"
- Override the Attenuation settings in the UE5 Editor
Before starting
To avoid any confusion, please remove the sounds you placed in the level during the previous tutorial, "Beginner's Guide 07 Playing 3D Sound (1)."
Adjusting the attenuation
Place the "3D_Sound_Heli_Loop_Normal_Cue" on the level.

Start the game and verify that this sound is not a 3D sound.
Adjusting the attenuation
Select the “3D_Sound_Heli_Loop_Normal_Cue” in the level and look at the details window.
Check "Override Attenuation" in the "Attenuation" section.
In the "Attenuation (Spatialization)" section, check "Enable Spatialization."
In the "Attenuation (Volume)" section, check "Enable Volume Attenuation".
3D sound is now set for that Cue.
However, as it is, it will be difficult to perceive the effect of distance attenuation. You first have to adjust the "Inner Radius" and "Falloff Distance" parameters in the "Attenuation (Volume)" section as needed.
For instance, if you are using the same map (ThirdPerson) as in this tutorial, you should set them as follows:
- "Inner Radius" ... 300
- "Falloff Distance" … 1500
Listening to the 3D sound
Start the game. You can now verify that the sound you placed in the level is now a 3D sound.
Tips
Distance attenuation
Distance attenuation is the effect whereby a sound becomes quieter the farther away it is from the sound source.
If you configure a distance attenuation for a Cue in CRI Atom Craft and then check "Enable Spatialization" under "Attenuation (Spatialization)", the original settings made in the tool will be ignored.
About the Inner Radius
No distance attenuation will occur when you are inside this radius, which is centered on the sound source.
About the Falloff Distance
Distance attenuation occurs when the listener is between the Inner Radius and the Falloff Distance.
Once you go outside the "Falloff Distance" the volume will drop to zero.
Applying the same settings to multiple sounds
3D sound settings can be created in advance as assets and then reused.
Uncheck "Override Attenuation" and select "Sound Attenuation" from the "Attenuation Settings" menu.

Clicking the Save button will create a sound attenuation asset. (This sound attenuation asset will be applied at the same time.)

Open the sound attenuation asset and configure the 3D sound.
Once you have created a sound attenuation asset, you can reuse these settings by simply selecting them from the “Attenuation Settings” menu.
